The Lansing Township Planning and Community Development Department is comprised of four divisions: Building, Code Enforcement, Planning and Zoning, and Property Maintenance. The Planning & Community Development Department is involved in a broad range of activities that seek to create healthy, prosperous, safe, and attractive communities where people can work, live, and grow.
PLANNING AND ZONING
The Planning and Zoning Division is responsible for overseeing and implementing the Master Plan for Land Use and the Charter Township of Lansing Zoning Ordinance.
BUILDING DEPARTMENT
The Building Division performs residential and commercial building inspections and interprets, administers and enforces the provisions of the adopted Michigan Building Code and Associated Codes. The Building Division also oversees the issuance of electrical, mechanical, and plumbing permits.
PROPERTY MAINTENANCE
The Property Maintenance Division performs inspections of rental housing units and maintains related records to ensure compliance with the Township’s ordinances and adopted codes. Inspections are done in compliance with the International Property Maintenance Code, Lansing Township Code of Ordinances, and the Michigan Building and Residential Codes.
CODE ENFORCEMENT
The Code Enforcement Division enforces provisions of the International Property Maintenance Code and the Charter Township of Lansing's Code of Ordinances, which generally covers the area outside of a building or residence.
